The feature events were the Iverach Volkswagon Dash For Cash for boys and girls with more than $1000 for the winners, with David Iverach and his family generously supporting the carnival again this year.
In the boy’s 12 years and under, Henry Gordon from Bourke was first with Lachlan McCabe and Jarrod Algie from Dubbo City Swimtech in 2nd and 3rd places. Coonamble swimmers Dylan Ryan and Sam Gray placed 4th and 5th to collect the minor money.
The girl’s event for 12 years and under was just as thrilling. Jacque Terry from Orana came 1st with Keely Potter and Olivia Mulholland (City Swimtech) coming 2nd and 4th respectively.
Emma Regan from Orange was 3rd and Jaz McCabe from Kincumber 5th to round out the top five placings.
The boys 13 years and over event was won by Josh Hay-McKenzie from Kinross Orange in an upset from Jake Harris (Mudgee Indoor) and Kerrod Potter and Max Cowley (City Swimtech) 3rd and 4th with Chris Matuschka from Kinross in 5th place.
The girls 13 years and over event was won as expected by Australian Age qualifier and carnival record holder from last year, Chelsea Findley from Novocastrian.
Georgia Baker from City Swimtech did great to finish 2nd and Keeley Buck (Nuswim) picked up the 3rd place money.
Then came Georgi York from Mudgee Indoor and Grace Sandry (City Swimtech) filling 4th and 5th places.
Another feature of the carnival came when Claudia Mulholland was presented with the Trevor Meyers Memorial Handicap Shield by David Iverach for winning the 2011 handicap event on the Sunday after three weeks of knockout swims.
Overall, City Swimtech members had a very successful carnival with swimmers breaking 13 of the 24 records set on the two days. Standout swimmer was Jonah Raidaveta who set four records in the boys 5-years events and had a smile a mile wide on Sunday.
Lachlan McCabe showed his good form in breaking two records in the boys 12 years age group while Max Cowley also came up with two records in the boys 14 years age group.
Other record breakers were Maddie Gardner, Luci Ferguson, Kerrod Potter, Georgia Baker and Sarah Valantine who all performed very well over the two days.
Other winners and placegetters over the two days from Dubbo City Swimtech were: Jarrod Algie, James and Benjamin Batten, Mitchell Bebbington, Rosetta Betts, Anika Bush, Georgie Conway, Tyler Edwards, Chloe Farrell, Sophie Goodall, Jessica Hyland, Claudia Kerr, Cherry Langley, Claudia and Elle Mulholland, Matilda and Lachlan Munn, Calvin Perry, Jonah Raidaveta, Joe and Lachlan Sinclair, Emily Thompson, Emma Turner, Sarah Valantine and Olivia and Thomas Whatmore.
As was seen the previous weekend at the NSW Country Regionals, Dubbo City Swimtech dominated the meet with 67 firsts, 54 seconds and 33 thirds which showed the contribution made by all the swimmers in the club.
Coach Dennis Valantine was again very pleased with the amount of improvement and personal best times achieved by all the swimmers and hopes that this will continue this weekend at the Western District Championships to be held in Dubbo.
Club President, Steve Cowley, joined Dennis in congratulating all the Club’s swimmers for a fantastic effort and was looking forward to a similar result.
