The three-person ambrose event was ready made for Dubbo members Koch (4-handicap), Brett Harvey (17) and Stuart Zell (27) who finished with 53 nett after a fabulous round of 10-under-par 61 off the stick.
More importantly was the fact the IGA Western Region group was able to donate $30,000 to Camp Quality to help with their work assisting children suffering from cancer.
The day attracted 80 players and later more than 100 guests for dinner, presentations and an auction in the clubhouse.
The presentations featured Koch, Harvey and Zell taking the major prize in front of Michael Hall, George Allebi and Mark Stanford (64 - 54.8) with the Warren IGA team of Debbie and Greg Kentwell and Alison Paine next on 63 - 56.0.
Other major placings were occupied by Russell Peet, Trent Sissian, Craige Peterie (64 - 56.3); Mark Crutcher, Gary Handcock, Ian Ashcroft (62 - 56.7); Michael and Chris Welch with Michael Montgomery (67 - 56.5) and David and Toni Brown and Chrissy Gosper (68 - 57.5).
Such was the support from sponsors every team received a prize including the worst card of the day handed in by Barry Hildebrandt, Natalie O’Brian and Colin Hill with 78 - 66.67.
Special guest at the dinner was Don McMichael, the regional manager for Camp Quality (NSW-ACT) who was overwhelmed with the donation.
“Last year you had more players and raised $30,000, this year you have achieved the same result and on behalf of Camp Quality we thank IGA, the sponsors, suppliers and participants for their response,” he said.
“Down in Canberra we had a golf day recently and which made $32,000; you have done so well with fewer numbers, well done.
“In our region we cater for 140 kids and their families and this money from today will go towards a junior camp we will be holding for 60 kids and their companions.”
Ann Sutton, whose family operate the IGA supermarket at Coolah, is an IGA board member and helped organise the day with Henry Jom from IGA West Dubbo and Gary Handcock, Crutcher’s IGA in South Dubbo.
“We could not be happier with the way the day went,” Sutton said.
“The response from everyone was magnificent. All the sponsors and suppliers have been thanked but special mention to Dubbo Golf Club pro Craig Mears and Whitney’s Jewellers in Dubbo.
“Craig stayed all day on the fifth tee and hit balls for each team onto the green, that part raised $660 alone.
“Warren and Gina Brown at Whitney’s provided a $4500 diamond ring for a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, unfortunately that prize wasn’t won. Whitney’s did in turn provide one of the auction prizes which boosted our overall profit from the day.”
More than $6000 was raised from the auction with top ticket item being a corporate package including accommodation and tickets for the Sydney V8 races coming up in less than a fortnight.
