Vice president of the Eumungerie Coboco RSL Sub-branch John Brady said it took a process of five years to complete the cenotaph.
“It took us a couple of years and then Dubbo City Council gave us the okay to build it on council land, they will be the guardians,” Mr Brady said.
He said many pitched in to build the $25,000 project.
“All levels of government gave a grant and a lot was donated from the public, which has been absolutely tremendous,” Mr Brady said.
“It will create interest, now people will see relatives’ names.”
President of the Eumungerie Coboco RSL Sub-branch John MacKenzie said the new memorial is an updated version of the timber and granite plaques in the Eumungerie Memorial Hall and applauded those in the community who gave to the project.
“It’s a great achievement. It takes a lot to raise money after 10 years of drought,” he said.
Designer of the cenotaph Frank Dunne said the principle of the design of the memorial is a WWI tank.
“It was designed about five years ago. After five years it feels great,” he said.
Mr Dunne said the memorial also had plaques for Mogriguy’s WWI and WWII veterans and the names on the plaque were updated for the new cenotaph.
“The ones in the hall might have been done back in 1945,” he said.
