It comes after Dubbo emergency services were called to a collision between two cars on the Newell Highway also on Monday afternoon.
Nyngan family man Fred Walsh was a “happy-go-lucky, really hard working bloke who loved a beer,” said life-long friend Terry Milligan.
“I’ve known him all his life, he loved his family and loved his daughters,” said Mr Milligan.
Mr Walsh’s employer discovered his vehicle on Gibson Road about 30 kilometres south of Nyngan, after after becoming worried when Mr Walsh didn’t turn up to work.
Initial police investigations found Mr Walsh lost control of his Toyota Rav4, causing it to leave the road and roll several times.
Dennis and Janette Thorpe, who employed Mr Walsh for more than 30 years as a shearer, said the 64-year-old, “loved life and idolised his three girls”.
“He was the most wonderful man,” Mrs Thorpe said.
Mrs Thorpe said Mr Walsh was nicknamed ‘Frog’ and was missed by everyone when he retired from shearing three years ago.
“When he finished up Frog’s laughter and good humour was missed by us and by his teammates in the shed,” said Mrs Thorpe.
Meanwhile, police said the collision on the Newell on Monday occurred after one driver attempted a U-turn across the highway.
“The driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero was stationary on the side of the Newell highway facing south,” Orana Local Area Command Inspector Matt Scott said.
The driver attempted to perform a U-turn to head towards Dubbo and failed to give way to the Hyundai Excel travelling south and a collision resulted, he said.
The driverof the Hyundai Excel was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for observation.
“The driver of the Pajero was issued with an infringement notice by police,” Insp Scott said.
