For Dubbo’s Dr Robert North that dream became a reality on Tuesday morning when his second attempt at conquering Mount Everest was successful.
In 2007 Dr North came within 400 metres of the nearly nine kilometre high summit before he was forced to turn back.
Undeterred, three years later Dr North was back on the Himalayan peak battling altitude sickness, minus 30 degree weather and cracking fast winds to kick a lifelong goal.
One has to take their hat off to Dr North, who now can not only boast about his Mt Everest success but also brag about being one of the few people to have climbed the highest peak on every continent.
Dr North also joins a group of Dubbo-raised athletes, such as David Peachey and Glenn McGrath, who have used their God-given talents to rise above the talents of mere mortals.
Dr North should now be a source of inspiration for Dubbo youngsters who wish to achieve something great.
It’s been said before, but it’s worth saying again - it matters not from where you come, and it matters not where one was born.
What matters is determination - such as Dr North’s determination that saw him return to Mt Everest for a second attempt.
Whether it be climbing, football or something non-sporting Dr North’s feat proves their ain’t no mountain high enough to stop people from scaling to the top.
