David Honeysett’s 42 stableford points was newsworthy for all the right reasons when he carded the best score of the day in The Daily Liberal Trophy on Wednesday at Dubbo.

Playing off a generous 15 handicap, Honeysett had the course to his mercy and was duly rewarded for his consistency.
Our first wintery day provided sunny conditions in the morning but later on the cold wind picked up and as a result some scores blew out.
However the course was set up nicely and although it wasn’t all that long, some difficult pit placements made for an interesting day.
Honeysett’s winning score was certainly a standout in Division 1 with runner-up Joel Head being second with 39 on a countback over Ross Horrocks.
Greg Ryan was telling me that he played with Head, the current club champion, and he had something like three under par off scratch with his putting a feature.
Other pair made up of Peter Laffey and Leigh Wilcox were also consistent with their 38s while satisfying scores came from Peter Allan, Dick North, Michael Fraser, Ben Amor and Doug Medcalf - all with 36.

The afternoon conditions certainly didn’t hold back John Bassingthwaighte who won Division 2 with 41 points from 25 handicap.
He finished one in front of the consistent Gerry Dawson (27) with 40. The previous Saturday Dawson won C-grade and has been chuckling about his handicap blow-out that came about in early April.
I played in the same group with Dawson and Randall Richardson and a feature of Dawson’s card was a couple of four pointers - one that comes to mind was a putt from just off the front of the green on the tough par-4 4th hole - as well as his driving from the tee.
After the trophy winners came Reg Warren and Jeff Wright (38), Colin Yates and Len Banicevic (37) and 36s from Tom Gray, Brian Kelly, Craige Peterie, Jim Ryan, David Pryce-Jones, Geoff Richards, Don Stephens and Brian Barnes.

A shot from Brian Barnes to 110cm on 26 was best of the nearest to the pin shooters on Wednesday - with the hole playing 120m into a pin cut short right.
Other winners were Craig Marchant (140cm) on five; Michael Hall (396cm) on eight and Graeme Hubbard (392cm) on 23.

Kidding Greg and Pauline Ryan are not happy to see their daughter Kayla back living in Dubbo with her new husband, professional golfer David Batten.
Formerly from Victoria, Batten landed a job with Craig Mears in the Dubbo pro shop and obviously his teaching techniques are showing some nice results.
For Pauline Ryan that was fairly obvious on Thursday when she reduced her handicap from 35 to 32 with a winning stableford card of 43 points in the ladies event for trophies donated by Judy Pryce-Jones.
Other good scores came from Judy Attenborough and Jenny Furney (39), Jean Kelly (38), Jill Dunstan, Di Hewitt and Amanda Greig, as well as Marion James and Chrissy Gosper 36.
Other handicap breakers were Wheeler 43-42, Jenny Furney 45-41 and Anne Northey 37-36.
