The St John’s College production of the musical received a rapturous response on its opening night on Saturday.
College drama teacher and the 2010 musical’s publicity officer Elissa Burden said the opening night at Barbara Amos Hall could not have gone better.
“It was wonderful,” she said.
“We had a really great response to opening night.”
The musical tells the story of Frederic, who has just completed his apprenticeship as a pirate and who then falls in love with Mabel the youngest daughter of Major General Stanley.
The cast includes Kingston Roser as the pirate king, Zach Beavon-Collins as the Major General, Gabe Dunn as Frederic and Kayla Atkins as Mabel.
Ms Burden said the whole cast was feeling a little tired from their gruelling stage schedule but they weren’t letting that stop them from going out and putting on the best show they could each time.
“I think everyone is just running on adrenaline now,” she said.
Acting principal Kerry Morris said the production had shown the talent of the whole college.
“Every aspects of the production has been prepared at the college, including stage props, music, costumes, dance, lighting, acting and promotion,” she said
Ms Burden said a matinee put on for primary school students yesterday had also been a hit with its audience.
There are two shows left for the production, tonight at 7.30pm and Wednesday night at 7.30pm.
