Members of the Dragons’ High Performance Unit (HPU) will be here for the day under the direction of head coach Ben Haran, who is also assistant coach for the club’s Toyota Cup team under Adrian Lam.
Recruiting and scouting manager Brian Keegan will also attend along with Dave Ballard, the strength and conditioning coach for the under-20s and the HPU.
Former Australian prop forward Craig Young is director
of the St George HPU but
is unavailable for the Dubbo visit.
The club has confirmed that 12 boys will be involved in the assessment and identification day - four from Dubbo, one each from Warren, Gilgandra and Coonamble, three from Nyngan and another two from Lake Cargelligo.
Former Dubbo CYMS junior Max Ray is currently playing Toyota Cup for St George in his first season of big-time football.
The former Australian Academy of Sports rugby league squad member has made a big impression with the Saints in a very short time.
Dubbo St George fan George Rich has been a talent spotter for the Saints over a number of years and, while he is currently on holiday in New Zealand, he is confident the current crop of youngsters has the ability to shape up.
“We’ve already had Jackson Merritt, Charlie Runciman and Jordan Hay signed with the club so that’s good and there’s another boy from Nyngan, Jacob Neil, who played in a trial early in February but broke his ankle,” Rice said.
“These boys have been down to the club for training camps and the like but they sought to come to Dubbo and run a rule through the players. There will be some field work up at Apex Oval and gym assessments down at the Dubbo RSL.”
The field session will run from 2.15pm until 4pm before moving down to the RSL club for 90 minutes in the gym from 4.30pm until 6pm.
The clinic will close with a 30-minute video session from 6pm.
