Mohammed Hoblos, 26, is accused of murdering a 25-year-old man at a 21st birthday in Merrylands in April this year.
He made a brief appearance unrepresented via audiovisual link in Dubbo Local Court.
Homicide Squad detectives charged the Sydney man with murder at the Wellington Police Station on Monday afternoon, NSW Police have reported.
He was also charged with possessing ammunition without a license, possessing a mobile phone as an inmate, knowingly taking part in the supply of prohibited drugs and six counts of supplying prohibited drugs.
The fatal shooting occurred at a party on Davies Avenue in Merrylands about 11.15pm on April 25.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Westmead Hospital where he later died.
Hoblos is currently serving a term of imprisonment, which began on June 15 this year, for driving while disqualified.
He was sentenced in Liverpool Local Court to 12-months with a non-parole period of nine months and would have been due for release on parole in February next year.
Hoblos was originally held at the Silverwater Correctional Complex before being transferred to Wellington on September 20 this year.
He appeared before the court yesterday in his prison greens via audiovisual link from the Wellington Correctional Centre and made no application for bail.
Magistrate Howard Hamilton formally refused it before adjourning the matter in order for Hoblos to seek legal advice.
Hoblos told the court he had not seen a solicitor yet but a legal representative from Sydney would be appearing on the next occasion.
Strike Force Marwick, comprising detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad with assistance from Merrylands Local Area Command, was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting, a NSW Police spokesperson said.
The matter was adjourned until December 9 for further mention at Dubbo Local Court.
Investigations are continuing and detectives are continuing to appeal to anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to police, to contact detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
