In 2006 Phil Mickelson peppered the flag sticks on the way to a 7-under-par score of 281 to win the US Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.

On Friday night some person will treasure this memento of Mickelson’s second Masters win, but it could cost you some good money.
The signed flag with a photograph of the winner is framed and is the feature item on the auctioneer’s list at the end of the IGA Western Region charity golf day and dinner being held at the Dubbo Golf Club to raise funds for Camp Quality.
Twenty-nine stores in the IGA network will be represented at the golf day that will feature a host of prizes and giveaways.
IGA has stores in towns from Bathurst to West Wyalong, Condobolin, out west to Bourke, Cobar, Walgett and Coonamble and Lightning Ridge and two in Dubbo.
The overall cost for the golf day is $100 per person which includes golf, food, refreshments and the dinner. All funds raised will go towards Camp Quality.
Henry Jom from IGA West Dubbo and Gary Hancock, manager of Crutcher’s IGA in South Dubbo, are both confident of a good result.
“As usual, all our 29 stores and a whole of major sponsors have responded in a most positive way to the golf day - our first,” he said.
“In the past we have held our fundraising day at the Warren races but there came a time for change and our store holders have embraced that change.
“In the past two years ago alone we have raised more than $80,000 for Camp Quality - we hope to build substantially on that this Friday.
“The day is open to everyone and we believe the $100 entry fee is good value and we would like to see a good number of players.
“We believe Camp Quality is a most worthwhile charity and deserve our help.’
The golf event is a three-person ambrose with a 10am registration and a 10.30am start. There will be drinks and nibbles after golf before the dinner in the dining room later in the night.
Best cards, long drives and nearest to the pins prizes will be on offer.
Being a golf nut, Jom is excited about the auction items, and particularly the Phil Mickelson memorabilia.
“It’s a valuable item and we think it will be very popular. I would really like anyone who may be interested to get in contact with me on 0409 815 998 - we will be open to all bids,” he said.
In the wash-up from the 2006 US Masters, Mickelson shot four birdies in a final round 3-under 69 which was good enough for a two-shot victory.
He finished at 7-under 281 on the toughened-up Augusta National Golf Club, the highest winning total at that time since Mike Weir shot that score in 2003.
Five players - Jose Maria Olazabal (66 on Sunday), Retief Goosen (69), Woods (70), Fred Couples and Chad Campbell (71s) - tied for third place, three shots behind Mickelson.
