The matters have been continually delayed since the incident in April last year, when the station wagon he was driving crashed into a tree on the Parkes to Wellington road, killing a 25-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl.

Stubbs will be sentenced for multiple counts of dangerous driving occasioning death and failing to stop after a vehicle impact occasioning death.

The 26-year-old Peak Hill man pleaded guilty to the charges last year.

Forty-one documents were handed up in court yesterday by the Crown Prosecutor, including various interviews, impact statements, Roads and Traffic Authority certificates, ambulance officers’ statements, police statements, autopsy reports, blood samples and a pre-sentence report.

Oral evidence will be given to the court, beginning today, from three police officers.

The defence handed up two doctors’ reports, including a psychological report.

Acting District Court Judge Sir Robert Woods said the matters could not be delayed any longer.

“It’s been delayed, delayed, delayed,” he said. “You’ve had months to sort it out.

“Mr Stubbs has been sitting in custody waiting.

“We can’t carry on delaying this matter.”

At the time of the incident in April last year, it was reported that the vehicle had snapped in half and caught fire.

The bodies of two people were discovered in the burned-out wreckage but a 19-year-old passenger managed to free himself and seek help at a nearby property.

Stubbs was found a considerable distance from the vehicle, four hours after the crash.

He suffered serious injuries, having surgery on his spleen and lungs at Orange Base Hospital after the incident.

Ten police from Dubbo, including forensic services personnel and specialist crash investigators, rushed to the accident 86km south of Dubbo.

Police from Parkes were also deployed along with members of the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service.

Traffic was blocked in both directions for much of the night while investigators conducted their inquiries.
