Champion bull rider David Mason certainly talks down the art of his sport when he describes it as just being like “another day at the office.”

He will be in Dubbo duringthe next three days to compete in the ABCRA rodeo as part of the National Horse Festival.
With a fair share of rides under his belt he gives the impression he would barely blink twice when challenged to a ride.
“Once you’ve been on a few it becomes routine,” he said.
“It’s just like a game of tennis or soccer you do the things you always do to prepare for that game.”
Mason who was titled the 2008 ABCRA Australian bull riding champion and in 2006 the ABCRA champion rookie said he will be up against some fierce competition in Dubbo over the next few days.
“There are a lot of good riders,” he said.
“I just hope that I’m given a good bull and he does his job and I do mine...and hopefully it goes well.”
Hailing from a family of riders it is no wonder he is so keen to keep getting back on.
“My uncle was a three time Australian champ,” he said.
“I broke five and cracked two ribs once and pulled two ligaments in my shoulder.
“But if someone said to me there was a bull that can’t be riden I’d want to prove that it can be.”
Building on his strength at the gym everyday and competing on most weekends Mason said he dreams of one day taking his career overseas.
“It is like any sport, if you put enough time and effort in the better you get and the more chances you have of getting there,” he said.
While it may not be the biggest competition in the land Mason said the Dubbo rodeo has a lot of potential.
“It is a good-sized show,” he said. “There is a fair bit of prize money...so it should be good.”
