Coached by Max Ellis, the Rams earned their place at this level after winning the Western Junior League in Orange undefeated.
The team was captained by Marty Roberts and comprised Liam Caton, Alex Robertson, Luke Anderson, Corey Williams, Josh Parkinson, Dylan Smithson and Nick Brooks.
They beat Lithgow in the major semi-final and then accounted for Orange in the grand final winning 73-26.
Marty Roberts scored 18 points and Liam Caton 14.
In a wonderful disciplined team effort Marty Roberts was named the grand final’s most valuable player in what was a magical captain’s display of leadership, skill and tenacity.
A lot of credit for the win must go to basketball stalwart Max Ellis. The boys have enjoyed a phenomenally successful and enjoyable season.
Their record to date is 18 wins and one loss, with that coming against Illawarra in the semi-finals of the Country Championships held on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
This weekend’s State finals at Bathurst involves the winners of the four country junior leagues, the first three of the Sydney junior league and a wildcard entry.
The opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the nation for their age has the team excited by the opportunity and challenge.
The team’s success and hard work has aided the further representative prospects of the boys.
Already four of the boys - Marty Roberts, Corey Williams, Liam Caton and Luke Anderson - have been chosen to participate in an All Star camp on the Cental Coast in October with all the team members pushing for selection later in the year to participate in the country basketball tours during January next year.
