Cat lovers will converge in the city for the Waratah National Cat Alliance Dubbo show.
The show is the place to be for people interested in acquiring a cat - or a feline manager.
Dubbo woman and stalwart of the alliance Mary Brooker is unable to attend the show due to ill health, but she hopes her cats will still be able to fly the city’s colours on Saturday.
Ms Brooker breeds and shows Ragdoll cats.
Her prizewinner, Phantom of the Opera, or Phantom for short, has enjoyed success both for his breeding and in the companion cat section.
The life of a show cat differs according to the length of their fur.
Long-haired Phantom has to be bathed, dried and combed for the big day, but a short-haired pussy cat may only need to be wiped over by chamois to wow the judges.
“Phantom does not enjoy his bath at all and makes quite a bit of noise, but afterwards he thinks the whole deal is not really so bad,” Ms Brooker said.
Different breeds of cats need different shampoos, just like coloured, fine, curly and dry human hair does, she says.
The alliance’s eighth annual Dubbo show will again take an open judging format, so everyone gets to be part of it.
There will be lots of kittens, pedigree and companion cats.
“We encourage the learning of responsible cat ownership, and of course, visitors can
talk to breeders and exhibitors who share their passion for cats,” the alliance’s Trisha Cross said.
“Visitors can also learn about the many different breeds, and which might be good for them if they are thinking about acquiring a cat.”
The cat show will be held at the Dubbo RSL Club from 9.30am to 4pm.
