A Wellington man faced Dubbo Local Court yesterday after it was alleged he shot a man at the weekend.
Twenty-two-year-old Craig Antaw appeared before the court on a charge of shoot with intent to murder as well as firearm- and drug-related charges.
Wellington police and Dubbo detectives attended the shooting incident which allegedly occurred about 8.30am on Saturday.
Police allege that Antaw discharged a number of shots at a Marsh Street residence in Wellington.
The search for the alleged shooter took police to three properties from Wellington to Mumbil.
After discharging a number of shots the offender fled the scene which led police to conduct a search of another Wellington residence, Orana Local Area Command Detective Sergeant Mark Meredith alleged.
The accused was arrested at a Mumbil residence without further incident about 11.30am and taken to Wellington Police Station, he said.
Antaw was interviewed there and later charged with the shooting, two drug-related charges and the possession of a firearm.
The drug-related offences corresponded to a search of a Mitchell Highway residence at Wellington, where a quantity of drugs was seized.
A 30-year-old Wellington man received injuries to his right shoulder and was taken to hospital.
He was discharged on Sunday.
Detective Sgt Meredith said a number of witnesses had already been spoken to by police and investigations were ongoing.
Yesterday Antaw did not enter a plea and bail was formally refused.
He will face Orange Local Court on March 17.
Another man faced Dubbo Local Court yesterday on a robbery charge.
Robert Klein, 29, is alleged to have stolen cash from a woman as she played the poker machines of a local club last Wednesday.
As a result of information received from the public, Dubbo detectives attended a Provan Place address on Saturday about midday, where Klein was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station.
He was subsequently interviewed and later charged with robbery.
Klein entered no plea and will reappear before the court on March 18.
Public information has been vital to the speedy arrest of both Klein and Ryan Edwards who was charged with armed robbery with an offensive weapon earlier this month.
“Dubbo police are extremely pleased with the amount of information received on those matters from the public,” Det Sgt Meredith said.
Police are hoping for similar help from the public to provide them with leads on the vandalism of a street post box in South Dubbo.
Overnight on Thursday last week a post box on the intersection of Macquarie Street and Tamworth or Allison Street was the subject of a malicious damage incident.
The incident, which damaged the mail inside the box, is being investigated by Dubbo police, who are appealing to residents in the area with any information to contact the station.
