An added attraction for Matthew McIntyre was being named in the NSW Junior team to play Victoria in a Test Series against Victoria on January 19 to 21.
This will be his final matches for NSW graduating from the junior ranks soon after the series.
The players were informed of their selection following the President’s versus Chairman’s match played at Cabramatta last weekend.
The squads will gather for coaching and training several times a year.
The squads are normally made up of 12 boys and 12 girls, but with three of the boys’ squad graduating from the junior ranks early in 2009, the boys’ squad has been expanded to 15.
The selection committee had some tough decisions to make with the 27 selected whittled down from the 58 players who showcased their talents in tough conditions at Cabramatta on the weekend.
The squad features two sets of siblings; brother and sister Rheni and Mitchell Austin and brothers Matthew and Michael McIntyre.
The boys’ side features three NSW debutantes in Ty Baker (Wee Waa), Bryce De Bruyn (Riverina AFC) and Wilson Patuwai (Warilla).
De Bruyn earns his reward as one of the most consistent performers in under-18 bowls over the last few years, but the series will be his only one for NSW Under-18s as he graduates from the junior ranks early in the new year.
Ty Baker has also performed well over recent years, being a key member of the Zone 3 side that has dominated the Under-18 Inter-Zone Championships.
Patuwai has had a meteoric rise. A member of the Warilla Bowling Club junior squads, he is relatively new to bowls, but featured in the Warilla Grade 1 side that was runner up in the BCiB Grade 1 State Pennant Final and was also a member of the Illawarra Zone 16 that won the Inter-Zone Sides Championship at opens level.
Matthew Mcintyre and Jesse Norohna (Warilla) will play in their final match for NSW in the series, graduating from the junior ranks soon after the series.
The girls side features one new player, Sarah Vesenjak (Raymond Terrace) earns her first series in the NSW Under 18 State side.
