The former Dubbo-bred youngster Zini’s Gump covered himself in glory by taking out the Group 3 $30,000 Young Star Classic Final in Perth.
Bred by Louise and Ashley Abbott and sold prior to the Dubbo April Carnival to Western Australia kennel client Shaun Miller, Zini’s Gump took control of the race during the mid stages to race away to en emphatic win.
“We’re over the moon here,” a jubilant trainer Terry Erenshaw said minutes after the win.
“We have always had a big opinion of Forrest and I thought he was boxed (8) to give this a real shake tonight.”
“Shaun’s over the moon, and was shouting the bar last time I spotted him.
“I was starting to get a bit worried about him when he was absolutely belted in a couple of his earlier runs, and then the penny dropped and his form has just risen to another level. We are rapt.”
The Stately Bird-Zini youngsters have begun their Western Australian careers on fire with Zini’s Jet winning his first two outings there at Cannington and Mandurah over the shorts, while Zini’s Hunter and Zini’s Miss have also tasted victory.
