The ability of the Dubbo Demons to attack the ball and back each other was one of the reasons for their commanding 18-11 (119) to 9-18 (72) victory over the Orange Tigers at South Dubbo Oval on Saturday.

While most of the attention was drawn towards ruckman Josh Gilroy playing his 100th game for the Dubbo club, it was Greg Richter who starred and was as accurate as ever with the boot kicking six majors, gaining support from Noel McGrath, Luke Steinborner and Gilroy with two each.
With injured coach Terry Lyons still on the sidelines for a couple of more weeks, he was able to see some major positives and other things that need improving on if the Demons are to retain their Central West first grade premiership.
“The good thing about the win was that we worked hard on the ball and backed each other - that made a lot of difference,” Lyons said.
“We were in front all the way after kicking five one in the first session to set up the afternoon.
“Having Josh (Gilroy) playing his 100th game for us seemed to inspire the rest of the boys. I think they were all keen to make sure the occasion didn’t go without rewards.
“He’s been a really good club man in his seven or eight years with us and was equally good again today.
“Stuart Gould was another for us making some great smothers at a time when it was a bit of an arm wrestle. That effort seemed to lift the rest of the players and it worked out nicely.”
Lyons admitted he is ‘picking up heaps’ watching his players from the sideline, “although while I’m not too pleased with not being able to play, I’ve been able to take some notes that I think will help us in our premiership defence.
“Teamwork is always important and we still need to get our runners to the ball more quickly - today it was only about fifty-fifty, but we are getting there.”
For the Tigers Grellett (4) and Cooper (3) were the major contributors, but overall the visitors were well below their best.
Despite their win over the Tigers, the Demons are still fourth on the CWAFL ladder with 12 points, behind Cowra Blues (24), Tigers (20) and Bathurst (16).
Saturday’s loss for Orange Tigers is a bit of a concern, their second in as many weeks after sailing through the first five rounds without being tested.
In other first grade games on Saturday Bathurst beat Young Saints 22-15 (147) to 9-8 (62) and Cowra smashed Parkes 37-25 (247) to 3-1 (19).
In the minor grades at Dubbo, the Demons won reserve grade and under- 14s, but the 17s went down.
In reserves, Dubbo kicked 16-13 (109) to Orange’s 9-4 (58) while it was Dubbo 9-7 (61) to 5-5 (35) in under 14s.
Orange’s only success came in under-17s with a commanding 18-6 (114) to 6-4 (40) victory.
Next week will be a major test for the Demons when they host first grade competition leaders Cowra at South Dubbo Oval, with reserves and juniors also against the Blues.
