Ben Shields and Tina Reynolds are certain to regain their seats on council after Saturday’s local government election.
The candidates gained 4864 and 2572 first preference votes respectively.
Pre-poll and postal votes are still to be counted.
Mr Shields said his victory was a victory for the people of Dubbo.
“It’s interesting to see that Tina shares similar views to me and those two candidates pushing the same belief come first and second,” Mr Shields said.
Mr Sheilds said his win reflects a number of issues the people of Dubbo have been fed up with over the past few years.
“The people of Dubbo are fed up. Every time there is a problem in Dubbo, council puts the rates up,” he said.
“They are fed up with the boy’s club running the show and they are fed up with council servicing their own business interest,” he said.
Gaining a quota of 2.67, Mr Shield’s second place grouped candidate Ann Barnard is likely to be elected.
He said it’s time the new council flexed their political muscle and get Dubbo serviced again.
“Every time we have a problem in Dubbo the rates go up,” he said.
“I love Dubbo and I’ve been so angry and upset over what’s been going on the last four to five years with the boy’s club, so now I’m relieved,” he said.
Mr Sheilds gained the second highest number of votes in the 2004 election.
Mrs Reynolds said she was happy a lot of people came out in support for the issues that she stood for.
“Standing up about Grow Dubbo and asking questions about whether it’s waste of council money and accountability of the general manager,” she said
“I’m still disappointed about Facebook,” she said.
Mrs Reynolds commented on the make up of the council so far.
“It looks like some councillors are getting on, a few of the ones that are dirty and play disgusting games,” she said.
“I’m disgusted that some of those are still on that drag Dubbo down,” she said.
Mrs Reynold’s said she was pleased at the prospect of other women joining council.
“Any female getting
on council is great, we
need to have a balance, we need to have more than one perspective on issues,” she said.
Mayor Greg Matthew’s congratulated both candidates on their high-profile campaigns.
