In a series of Easter enrichment activities meerkats enjoyed giant carrot pinatas and African lions attacked a pinata of their favourite meats to the delight of watching crowds.
Visitor numbers on Friday exceeded the zoo’s expectations but rainfall on Sunday kept people away, zoo general manager Matt Fuller said.
He was happy with the response to the zoo’s encounters and additional products.
“The Roar and Snore, the Zoofari Lodge and the big cat encounters were fully booked and we’ve had some very positive feedback,” Mr Fuller said.
The zoo attracted people from across the country on the final day of the holidays.
Visitors from Geelong, Sydney and Orange took in the sights while a group from Cobar were “wallying around”.
Kody Maloney turned three years of age yesterday and her family celebrated the day at the zoo, dressed in a ‘Where’s Wally’ theme.
“Kody’s birthday was an excuse for us to come to the zoo and have some fun,” mum Sarah Irvine said.
