ANZ was on board as major sponsors and contributed prize money for
placegetters in different events on the program. Local representation was higher than last year’s carnival, which is great news according to Swimtech’s Tracey McKenna.
“Our actual figure of 200 was down on last year but we didn’t have the same
representation from Sydney as we did last year,” she said.
“That means we actually had more
children from our region in action and we had competitors travel from places like Parkes, Orange, Walgett, Coonamble, Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Warren.”
There was $300 on offer for the first placegetter in each dash for cash 100m event with Parkes’ Keegan Thornhill
winning the mens division and Rhiannon Stevens from Kinross taking out the ladies event.
Dubbo Swimtech’s Harriett Amey did a great job to finish third in the womens race.
The carnival started on Saturday with the long-distance events, with Swimtech’s Taylor McKenna the only one brave enough to tackle the 1500m event.
The sprints were held yesterday and according to Tracey McKenna, the
program went like clockwork.
“Everything just fell into place nicely,” she said. “We were finished on time, the pool was great and we should thank Nick Wilson for his help with the event.
“Our sponsors are great. ANZ put up the prize money and we are lucky that we have them and other great sponsors to help us run such a good event.”
