The win continued a solid run of recent form for Smith, who at the halfway stage of season five is the current venue leader for the RSL Monday night free poker competition and the overall regional leader.
For his efforts on Sunday, Smith won his second entry into the APL Tournament of Champions, and as a result gave the ticket to his wife Lasita Smith.
Lloyd Strike is also featuring well on the leader boards, ahead in both the Saturday night Wildcard and Tuesday night competitions. Nickeah Roberts (Railway Wednesday), Neil Burrell (Amaroo Thursday) and Barry Fernando (Gold Club Sunday Pro Series) are the other leaders.
Neil Burrell won at the Amaroo on Thursday to push into the lead and was the winner of the weekly APL MP3 player draw for the local event winners.
He was drawn at random from Steven Baker, Frank Viglione, Sandra Hartley and Barbara Bell, who all picked up event wins during the week.
On Sunday Burrell was also the best-placed Dubbo player at the $30,000 Pro Series Challenge in Sydney, finishing 50th.
All he has to do to claim his MP3 player is present this article to the tournament organiser at any of the Dubbo venues.
Katie Hughes from APL was pleased to see attendances on the rise last week.
“Now that school has gone back and people are back from holidays we are once again seeing good numbers at poker games,” she said.
“We had 80 players last Monday and Tuesday and 60 on Wednesday night.
“We only had 85 on Saturday night, where we usually get over 100, but we had about 20 players heading to Sydney for the Pro Series Challenge.”
