Although preferred lies are still in play, grass off the fairway was long after recent rain and there was little run on the course.
However good golfers who hit the ball long and stay on the fairways didn’t have problems, as shown by Harper and Horrocks.
Harper continued his excellent stroke making of recent times with a one-under-par round of 70 for 66 nett to claim the major trophy donated by Martin Bourke and Jason Farr and the Whitney’s Jewellers medal.
Horrocks also had his moments and was well satisfied with his one over 72 for 68 nett and gained second placed on a countback from Marc Foley (80-68) and Richard Pawlenko (74-68).
Phil Munro was another to fire with a par round and 69 nett and just finished off the pace.
Scores of 71 or better collected balls which blew out to 73 in B grade and 77 for C grade - again, a reason why the course played fairly difficult (for some) on Saturday.

Jamie Lewin finished a clear winner in B grade on Saturday with a solid 86-68 effort that saw him finish two in front of second placed Ron Willis (88-70) after a countback against Simon Keating (86-70).
Then came a group of players on 71 nett - Darren Scholes, Ian Edmunds and Bob Symes.
C grade was cut and dried after Ben Webb handed in a card of 90-66 - three in front of James Ball (96-69) and Derek Norris (89-70).
The Dick North Junior Medal proved to be a win for Jamie Lewin with 86-68.
