Peta Powyer and Micaela Wheeler from Dubbo will play in the Open side to be captained by Lauren Pedron from Wellington, while Sam Suckling and Kate Wells are in the Youth under-17s squad.
These championships are being hosted by Riverina Zone and from the games Country teams will be selected for the annual City v Country clashes in under-15s, 17s, 19s and Opens. These matches will be played at the end of October-early November and will be hosted by City this year.
According to Marie Cornish, the Western Zone women's cricket co-ordinator, many of the local players will be hoping to perform well and gain selection, as the Country-City games lead to NSW squad selection.
"Western have a very young and inexperienced open team compared to the other regional teams, while our youth team is also very young and for many this is their first championships," Cornish said.
"Hopefully our winter training program and youthfulness will have us right up there by the end of the weekend.
"But for a lot of the players to compete at this next level of women's cricket with and against current or previous state and Australian players is a great experience.
"Our Open team has a number of players who have played for State or are currently in State squads and we expect them to lead from the front."
