State Under 25s representative David Ferguson returns to his old club for the Hub of the West Classic Pairs that gets under way at West Dubbo today. The former West Dubbo apprentice greenkeeper left the city for Engadine and returns today for the three-day tournament with Simon Mitchel as his lead. David's father John, the long-term greenkeeper at West Dubbo, will also play again this week with club bowls co-ordinator Adam Lee as lead. The field of 32 teams is made up of a strong continent of mainly local area players, plus a few visitors including 2002 winners Greg and Wayne Lambourne from Maitland City. Many of the Western Warriors squad that competes in the Premier League series will also be playing. State seniors discard Paul McKenzie will team with fellow Dubbo Railway member Kelly Anderson, Henry Gordon (Railway) is with Anthony Brown (West Dubbo) and Bruce Williams from Forbes will play with John Chalker. One of the strong combinations will come from John Ensbey and Richard Clarke, Ensbey last year having become the first player to win all Far West championship honours. Clarke and Ensbey know each other's game well, are members at West Dubbo and their results will be watched with interest. Players will be vying for the winner's cheque of $4000 come the end of the final on Thursday afternoon while the runners-up will receive $2000 and $1000 each to the two beaten semi-final teams. Minor prize money will also be distributed. Many of the players were on the greens in practice yesterday with a calcutta and open draw conducted last night. The sectional play will involved all 32 teams with four teams in eight sections. Rounds one and two will be played today, round three in the morning and post-sectional play tomorrow afternoon, followed by semi-finals Thursday morning and the final in the afternoon. Game times are 9am and 1pm and visitors are welcome to watch the action.
