The Sunday stinker peaked at 3.30pm when the mercury crept past the previous high of 44.2 recorded on January 3 1990.
The record for our hottest run of sun has also wilted in the heat.
Dubbo's warmest spell was previously three days above 41 degrees back in 1957 - a mark well bested by yesterday when 43 degrees took us to seven in a row.
Keep the suncream handy because the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts things could get even hotter.
"I'll bet you're hot but I'm afraid the forecast for the rest of the week is no better," meteorologist Julie Evans said.
"We've got a very stable mass of hot air hanging over NSW and there's nothing to move it so we're expecting it to get even hotter."
Devices that ice, cool or blow have been moving faster than bare feet on bitumen, according to Gavin Thompson of Harvey Norman electrical.
"Our stocks of airconditioners and fans have been destroyed - we sold a month's supply of fans in three days," he said.
"We're actually getting a special shipment of airconditioners tomorrow to meet the demand.
"We're trying to steer people towards products that also heat for winter but it's hard to convince them it will be cold in three months' time."
Down at Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre manager Brett Slavin said turnstiles had been spinning for the past week.
"It's been flat out - we've been averaging about 1200 a day which is definitely more than a normal February," he said.
"The water's about 30 degrees which is four above normal - it's not being heated, it's all from the sun. The new leisure pool is proving very popular because parents can hop in and cool down with the kids."
Even attendance patterns at Dubbo's Reading Cinemas have been warped by the heat, according to manager Roger Lempriere.
"We've been getting as many admissions in the afternoon as the evening - I'd say the heat is the main reason," he said.
"We usually slow down at this time of year but it's continued to be busy since the school holidays. People seem to be trying to get out of this bloody heat, and I don't blame them."
