"It wasn't too bad," Strachan said.
Strachan said the club's preparation hadn't allowed for quite as much time to get ready as they would have liked, but the pre-season training had turned into a 'good day' on Saturday, with the Cougars chasing down a consistent Rugby side to leave the pitch with an equal total of runs by the end of the first innings.

"We backed ourselves, we bowled well earlier on, Buzzy in particular bowled superbly taking 6 for 35, the rest of the ream took all our catches, which isn't always like us, so yeah, it was good."
"It was a real good day out for us, and a good start to the season."
Strachan gave full credit to the CYMS' batting order as well, with Lachlan Strachan snatching a half century to keep the runs rolling in after Brock Larance (20) and Thomas Coady (35) both posted respectable scores in their opening pairing.
"The top order batted really well, which is always good, it's always good to start the season that way, with a good performance."
"We're normally slow starters and have been for as long as I've been playing, since 2009, so it was nice to get out of the blocks quickly this time around."
Along with the quicker start, Strachan says he sees a more confident team than the young guns that fought their way into the finals last year.
"It's a little bit more confidence, that young team last year getting to the finals and taking that experience, will definitely help them this year," Strachan said.
"CYMS have only been in the finals twice that I remember, and last year was the second time, I think we'll learn a bit from last year."
"That experience and the season last year was huge, having been beaten quite convincingly in the semis, hopefully the young guys will grow and go one better this year," Strachan said.
"At the moment though, our whole entire goal is just winning each game, which will require one run next week, then we'll reassess from there, depending on conditions."
"We have to get that run, win the game, then reassess from there, that's the focus."
Along with Lachlan Stracharn, whose half a century earning effort put CYMS in front and into a winning position, the veteran also named Bailey Edmunds as a stand-out on the first day,
"Taking 6 for 35, I mean the deck was a bit damp, we were lucky to win the toss and bowl, but you've still got to bowl those right areas."
