Ms Lyons’ service to the city was recognised on Friday with a memorial in her honour at Theresa Maliphant Park, across from the hospital where she spent so much time.
Son Wayne Lyons said Eunice was a silent achiever.
“For years I would see mum going out in this pink uniform every day and I didn't realise what she was doing. It wasn't until she rang us up one year to tell us she was getting an award from the government that I realised what a big deal it was,” he said.

Charlie Lyons said his mum was always there to help any group.
“She didn't want flowers at the funeral so we got people to donate to the Pink Ladies rather than have flowers. We raised about $1000 and [her son] Geoff took it up to Jenny Kelly [the president] and Bill Kelly was there and he said, ‘yep, that’s Eunice, raising money until the last minute’,” he said.
It was only weeks before she died that Eunice reluctantly had to stop volunteering for the organisation.
Ms Kelly said Eunice was “exceptional”.
“When her boys got a bit older she realised volunteering was something to do. She picked the Pink Ladies and she dedicated so much of her life to it. She did a lot of things way over and above,” Ms Kelly said.
Eunice was also a life member of the United Hospital Auxiliaries.
