They had just set off to drive to work, when the couple heard the distressed cries of a kitten under their car.
Chris said pulling over, they saw that the kitten was perched on the battery under the bonnet and was not going to move for anyone.
The kitten then escaped and hid itself in the rear wheel well of the car.

Chris said it was impossible to get the kitten out.
After a few phone calls for help, Dubbo Rescue Squad arrived.
The little kitten was now well out of reach above the rear axle, so the car was jacked up and a wheel removed.
The little bundle was finally removed and the crying stopped as soon as he was in the safe hands of Louis Perez-Mora of the Rescue Squad.

Dubbo Rescue Squad captain Neil Sturrock said being a rescue service, rescuing pets was a big part of what they do.
“In the past two to three months we’ve been to quite a few (animal) rescues,” he said.
Cpt Sturrock said the kitten – which was taken to Duncan McGuiness vets after his rescue - was aptly named Axle.
“He’s a beautiful kitten and quite tame,” he said.
After all the necessary check overs by the veterinarians, Axle will be put through the adoption process.
