Dubbo RSL Memorial Club reports its members attending a meeting on Sunday voted overwhelmingly in favour of the merger with the Dubbo City Bowling Club.
The result mirrored a green light given by bowling club members in September.
The bowling club had called for expressions of interest in amalgamation, against a backdrop of financial challenges detailed in its annual report.
After talks the two clubs entered into a memorandum of understanding, to take to their respective members.
Under the arrangement outlined in a notice of resolution to RSL club members, the amalgamation was being “effected by the dissolution of the bowling club and the continuation of the RSL club”.
One intention of the merger is to “in due course” relocate the club and bowling facilities of the bowling club “to new premises which will be located on land yet to be acquired by the RSL club”, the document shows.
Until then the Wingewarra Street premises would continue to be named “Dubbo City Bowling Club” and the amalgamated club would maintain its bowling greens and bowling activities.
After the club and bowling facilities had been relocated, the amalgamated body would facilitate the sale of the bowling club land, the document states.
Earlier this month, RSL club general manager Gus Lico said: “Dubbo RSL Memorial Club is fortunate that it is in a position to offer assistance and provide certainty for future years.”
“We are not interested in gaming machines as we have taken more off our floor than what the City Bowling Club has in their possession,” he said
“We are not interested in the land or the building which needs attention.”
“We are committed to operating the bowling club for three years from its current position whilst future plans are explored.”
This week Mr Lico reported there were 106 registered voters at the general meeting of the RSL, with 105 voting for the amalgamation.
“It goes to show that both members, Dubbo City Bowling and Dubbo RSL are unanimous and committed towards the amalgamation and looking forward to a suitable outcome for all concerned whilst giving Dubbo City Bowling Club members certainty and future whereas otherwise not possible,” he said.
The vote by RSL club members paves the way for the clubs to make an application to the Liquor and Gaming Authority to obtain approval for the amalgamation.
