More savings for local seniors
Businesses providing essential services, products and entertainment in the Dubbo electorate are the target of a renewed NSW Government push to entice more businesses to join the Seniors Card program.
The number of participating businesses offering discounts to Seniors Card holders has more than tripled since 2015.
It is so important that we continue to do everything we can to put downward pressure on the cost of living, and the Seniors Card program has enabled older people in our community to do more for less.
Everyday living discounts range from energy and phone bills, education courses, travel insurance, accommodation and through to your local café, gym, hairdresser or mechanic.
Seniors are already enjoying saving from big brands like Woolworths, AGL, Telstra, but I am calling on local retailers throughout the region to get on board.
At a time when the cost of living is rising and much of our ageing population is living on a fixed income, we need to find innovative ways to help seniors make every dollar count.
Businesses who sign up by November 9 this year will have the chance to win a $10,000 NSW Seniors Card advertising package, and members who nominate a business to join will go into a draw to win one of three $500 Visa gift cards.
A recent survey of 35,000 Seniors Card members revealed NSW seniors are more likely to try a new business if it offers a Seniors Card discount and almost 70 per cent of seniors would return to a business if they offered a Senior Card discount.

NSW welcomes federal changes to carting hay
Last week the NSW Government welcomed the announcement by the Federal Government enabling improved access for heavy vehicles delivering hay and fodder to drought-affected farmers.
From midnight last Thursday, consistent with changes implemented in NSW, heavy vehicles can carry loads up to a maximum height of 4.6 meters and 2.83 meters wide without requiring a permit to access across the country.
The Notice will remove the need for up to 6,000 permits a year. It is estimated farmers and truck operators will save the equivalent of up to 54,000 days per year applying and waiting for permits.
This follows the NSW Liberals and Nationals lead in August of the NSW Class 3 Drought Assistance Dimension Exemption Notice allowing more hay to be transported per truckload, reducing costs for farmers.
I welcome this announcement by the Federal Government that will provide further relief for our NSW farmers doing it tough.
Rural Crime Week
Coming to the end of a successful Rural Crime Week with NSW Police at the Henty Show, providing great crime prevention advice and material.
RCI’s have participated with NSW Farmers at 26 workshops throughout the State and are utilising the 11 new Investigators adding to the new Intelligence capacity to great effect with great arrests currently before the courts with beefed up legislation.
This great monthly initiative will continue the awareness of the impacts of Rural Crime across our state and how everyone can work together to drive it down.
Until next week, Troy
