A 59-year-old man has appeared in Dubbo Local Court via audio visual link on Monday after he was charged with robbery whilst armed over an offence that took place 30 years ago.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Ashburner to investigate a series of armed robberies that occurred across Sydney in the 1980s.
Strike force detectives attended a correctional facility at Wellington just after 9am on Monday, and charged the now 59-year-old man with robbery whilst armed.

Police will allege the man, who was armed with a handgun robbed a bank on Pitt Street in Sydney on Friday, May 16, 1986. He fled the scene with a sum of cash.
On Friday May 12, 2017, strike force detectives arrested the then 58-year-old man at Sydney Airport, after he was deported from the United Kingdom.
He was charged with other various offences at the time which remain before the court.
