Damian Callinan and Paul Calleja are bringing The Wine Bluffs to the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on March 23.
It will be an interactive show, Mr Callinan said, with the two comedians playing heightened versions of themselves.
“We pretend that we’ve got interest in a winery but it’s in Central Australia and not doing very well, we pretend we’ve been judging wine at the Rockhampton Show. Then the rest of the show is kind of like a masterclass as we try and teach people how to debunk all the wine snobbery,” he said.
Mr Callinan said he would also be on the lookout for the audience member who is just a little bit too serious about their wine. The chosen audience member will get a special title and shirt for the duration of the show.
“Once people have seen it we also find they bring their wine w-----r friend along so they can get taken down. Quite often someone will come to the show and then come back next week with their dad or their brother-in-law,” he said.
The Wine Bluffs started as a 15 minute show Mr Calleja was asked to do at a wine festival.
“He thought ‘who drinks a lot of wine?’, looked across the room and saw me. I was particularly busy a the time but just the idea of a good mate in a winery drinking wine I just went ‘I can’t say no to that’. We did it as a one off and we had so much fun we kept developing it,”he said.
The comedian said the Dubbo audience should come with an open mind to the show. And for all those people who take their wine seriously, pipe up.
