Following the expedited analysis of forensic evidence found at the elderly couple's East Street home, police identified and arrested the teen in a neighbouring street.
The alleged offender was charged with commit aggravated break and enter and commit a serious offence, and was refused bail to appear before the court.
"It was a great result for the community of Dubbo, to identify and arrest this bloke and get him off the streets,” a spokesperson for Orana Mid-Western Police District said.
“A lot of resources and effort was put in on this case and it paid off, with an arrest made literally within hours of the alleged offence being committed."
Both the 90 year old gentleman, who disturbed the alleged offender, and his 87 year old wife, who was also at home at the time, suffered no injuries but have been left shaken by the incident.
