Captain Michael Wherritt is hopeful that trend will continue this weekend when his side travels to Cowra to take on Mudgee in the division one final.
Dubbo won through to the decider at Orange’s Duntryleague Golf Club on Sunday, winning its first three match-ups against Forbes.
That made the final two games redundant so they were called off before reaching the 18th hole.
Wherritt, Mat Brown and Nick Coggan all won while number one Dave Gleeson led Forbes champion Steve Betland at the time that game was called off while Nick Gleeson trailed by one in his game.
“We seem to be getting stronger and getting the right people in the right positions now,” Wherritt said.
“Hopefully that continues but you never know, golf is a fickle game.
“Our (semi) win was not too bad. We won the first three so called the others off and we were leading in one of those so that’s a good lead-up to this weekend.”
Mudgee and Dubbo were tipped by many as the two sides to watch this season and will meet on the grand stage after the former trounced Cowra 5-0 in its semi at Dubbo.
“On paper, yes (we expected Mudgee to win) but you never know with golf because if two or three people have a bit of an off day it can change everything,” he said.
“But we’ve put in the work.”
Wherritt has gone with the players he can trust this year, with those in the division one side out on the course at Dubbo most Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“They’ve put that extra work in and that gives me confidence as captain when I select them in a certain position,” Wherritt said.
The players have repaid Wherritt with Coggan currently undefeated this in pennants this season while Brown has lost just once, when he was moved to number one to take on Mark Hale during the clash with Mudgee in the pool stage.
Dubbo won that match but finished behind the defending premiers after suffering a loss to Duntryleague.
Dubbo was the only side to be represented in semi-finals in all four divisions on the weekend but the top grade side is the only one which won through to the final.
The division 2 and 3 sides both lost to Bathurst while Forbes gained some revenge in the division 4 match.
“A busload went to Duntryleague and we had four teams so it’s a bit unfortunate only one will be going to Cowra,” Wherritt said.
“That happens but it is a bit sad and we’ll just have to see how we go next year and try and get a few more into the final.”
Wherritt was also keen to thank Gary Barraclough and McDonald’s for their sponsorship this season.
