Speaking with the Fairfax Media last week, Mr Moss said he’ll be in acoustic mode when he performs at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre in August.
“There will be a wide range of material including versions of (Cold) Chisel classics, plus plenty others and blues and songs off my current album,” he said.
Mr Moss’ latest self-titled album is his most personal record yet and he said it was very proud of it.
The album was produced by one of Mossy’s first guitar heroes, Peter Walker, who also produced Cold Chisel’s self-titled debut in 1978 and co-produced Ian’sMossy’s second solo album, 1991’s Worlds Away.
“There are a great lot of songs with a good message in each of them,” Mr Moss said.
He co-wrote every song with Sydney singer-songwriter Sam Hawksley, aside from the song titled My Suffering, which was written by his Cold Chisel bandmate and dear friend Steve Prestwich, who died in 2011.
There are other little nods to Cold Chisel: Charley Drayton – who joined Chisel after Steve’s passing – plays on ten tracks.
Don Walker’s piano punctuates A Girl Like You, which name-checks one of Chisel’s favourite haunts when they moved to Sydney in the ’70s, the Manzil Room.
My material is good sing-a-long songs, but deserve a good listen to and I find at the Theatre people are more than happy to listen.
- Ian Moss
Put simply, Ian Moss – known as Mossy to his legion of fans – is part of Australian music’s soul.
Originally from Alice Springs, he became one of the voices of Cold Chisel and a revered guitar hero. In 2014, Mossy’s fellow musicians ranked him Australia’s greatest guitarist in a News Corp poll.
“It will be a well rounded show with plenty of stuff for people to be familiar with,” he said.
This won’t be the first time Mr Moss has performed in Dubbo. Ian was here in 2016 and said he loves performing at the local Theatre.
“My material is good sing-a-long songs, but deserve a good listen to and I find at the Theatre people are more than happy to listen,” he said.
“So I’m looking forward to getting back to the Dubbo Theatre.”
The latest tour will see Mr Moss play across many regional towns across the country, something of which he made a point of doing.
“I’m a country boy originally.. I like to look after regional Australia,” he said.
He enjoys touring and said he can’t see himself stopping anytime soon.
The show will be held on Saturday, August 4 at the DRTCC.
