The sewing group ‘Macquarie Sewcialites at Kintyre Living’ presented the cheque of $577 to Macquarie Homestay managing director Rod Crowfoot on Wednesday.
Group member Janice Willetts said everyone worked together to create the quilt.
“There were 36 blocks in total. We each started with two, but some got together to make the rest,” she said.
Julie McLane said it had been a team building exercise for the group.
“This isn’t our first charity quilt but I’m sure it’s not our last either,” she said.
“We were really pleased to know the money is going to a worthy cause within our community. Quite often quilting and craft brings communities together so we were really pleased.”
Mr Crowfoot said he was “tickled pink” to get the call from Janice to say they’d raised the money.
“It’s one of those things that we’ve felt in the last 18 months or so from a number of donations to Macquarie Homestay that individuals, groups and bus have chosen to support Macquarie Homestay because the money stays here…,” he said.
“It’s not disappearing off to Sydney or metropolitan areas and you never see the benefit of that money…”
Mr Crowfoot said donations like the quilt fundraiser were going into Stage 2 of Macquarie Homestay.
“As a result of the donation today it’s going straight into building Macquarie Homestay and getting us up and running,” he said.
Mr Crowfoot said the committee are hoping to have first Macquarie Homestay guests stay in September this year.
“That will give us 14 families that we’ll be bale to help while their getting their medical care treated at Hospital,” he said.
Mr Crowfoot thanked the group in supporting the local community.
“This sort of money is going into helping the accommodation up and running,” he said.
“We’re really looking forward to September this year when our first guests get to come and stay us.”
