The 20 men and women believe they make up the “first organised group” from the region to be included in the parade that moves along Oxford and Flinders streets.
They will be among 200 groups involving 12,000 people in the parade that may attract up to 300,000 spectators.
The loud and colourful event will be “emotional” for at least one member of the Central West Rainbow Community group.
Dubbo’s Lee Berrier, who has organised the group’s excursion to Sydney, has never marched in the parade.
“I’ve always watched it on TV and wondered what it would be like,” she said.
“I’m expecting a lot of tears to be honest, especially after the marriage equality vote, especially after the Central West Pride March.
This time last year I couldn’t legally get married and now I’m getting married in September.”
Ms Berrier began planning the trip early last year after being prompted by the words of another member of the Central West LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex and Asexual) community.
The lament that the parade was “too far away” and participation “too hard to organise” made her swing into action.
“We hope that by having a presence at the event, it will encourage those who are struggling with their sexuality or gender identity to be proud of who they are, regardless of where they live,” Ms Berrier said.
Most of the 20-member group are from Dubbo. “But I’ve got some people coming from Wellington and Mudgee,” Ms Berrier said.
“I’ve also got some people who grew up in Dubbo and then moved to Sydney for work, who want to march with us.”
Black and white shirts featuring a “CWRC” logo are being “personalised” by members of the group in the lead-up to the parade.
A member of the group has generously paid for a banner bearing the same logo.
“You should be able to see us,” Ms Berrier said.
She said the parade can be watched live online with highlights running from 8.30pm on March 4 on SBS.
