Mudgee thumped Duntryleague on Sunday, adding credence to Mark Hale’s “two horse race” claim when he suggested Dubbo was by far the hardest team the defending champions would face in the Central West District Golf Association pennants competition.

Mudgee moved clear at the top of the ladder following the dominant win over the Orange powerhouse at Dubbo Golf Club.
Dubbo, which had the bye on the weekend, now faces a massive match against Hale’s men this coming Sunday.
Mudgee captain Hale, who scored a commanding victory over Duntryleague star Robert Payne by the 16th hole, was delighted to see his side record such a strong win.
“I wasn’t trying to be smart about it but it came to fruition on the weekend when we beat them five nil,” he said, harking back to his “two horse race” statement.
“I think that fired the boys up too and made them concentrate harder on getting the win because we definitely talked about going over there and getting the job done.”
Dubbo meets Mudgee at Wellington this weekend in a match which will determined the semi-finals.
If Dubbo wins, it will face Mudgee again in the semis while a loss would see Hale’s side take on Dunrtyleague for a place in the final.
“Dubbo will probably be our toughest match,” Hale said.
“They got beat by Duntryleague two weeks ago so they’ll be really pumped up.”
The other pool A match saw Wellington down Orange club Wentworth while in pool B, big guns Forbes knocked off Bathurst 3-2 at the Cowra Golf Club.
