Byrne led South Dubbo to an imposing total of 7/231 from its 40 overs in the RSL-Kelly Cup but Rugby Blue’s Grant Berryman ensured it was not enough.
Berryman then came out and and smacked 115 not out while Bryce O’Mally made 79 as Rugby Blue reached the target inside 33 overs.
Earlier, Byrne had been unstoppable when punishing the Rugby Blue attack and scoring the second-highest score of the season.
It was a tough day for bowlers but Rugby Blue’s James Rootes claimed 2/31 from eight.
Newtown Black continued its push for the minor premiership on Saturday, with a strong all-round batting effort and Scott Barber’s five wickets leading to a dominant win over Macquarie White.
Craig Pettit made 50 for the Tigers while Graham Baker (45) and Brett Wrigley (35) also contributed in a total of 4/223.
Luke Patis took 3/27 for the Blues, who never got going in reply.
Brad Roberts played a lone hand in the chase, making 69, but no one could make more than just 12 as Barber ran riot and finished with 5/13. Macquarie White managed just 114 in reply.
Shane Groen’s five-wicket haul helped RSL-Colts White maintain its place at the top.
After Colts White posted 179 against CYMS Red, Groen dominated with the ball and finished with 5/30 from eight overs.
Peter Hyde made 44 for the Cougars but there were no other real inputs as Groen helped his side win by 65 runs.
Earlier, Garry Ashford made 41 and Glenn Armstrong chimed in with 33 in Colts’ total.
Newtown Gold is in the top five after a crushing win over Macquarie Blue.
Jackson Dawe destroyed the Macquarie lineup, taking 6/17 as his side sealed a massive 157-run win. Josh Battishall’s 81 had earlier set the tone as the Tigers posted 197 and then Dawe dominated and helped roll the Blues for a paltry 40. Dave Murray took 4/16 for Macquarie Blue.
Rugby Red cemented its place in the top five when downing Newtown White by 41 runs.
Mitch Rosenbaum (55 not out) and Garry Goodman (49) powered Rugby Red to a total of 6/203 after the side had earlier been 5/83, thanks largely to Justin Sutton’s 3/10 off five.
Lawson Shepherd took 4/12 for Rugby Red and while Dean Lake (59) did a job for the Tigers, his side could only manage 162 in reply.
CYMS Green’s run of form continued on Saturday and a comfortable 67-run win over RSL-Colts White saw it move within four points off fifth.
Joe Jackson was again in the runs for the Cougars, top-scoring with 52 but there were few other contributions as his side was kept to 8/160 from 40 overs.
Will Olney (2/24) and Bailey Collins (2/35) were the standout bowlers for the Colts side.
Brian Carroll (3/6 from five) then gave his side a fine start with the ball, helping reduce Colts to 4/8 and while Mick Davis (55) belted his side back into contention, Daryl Thompson (3/5) helped dismiss Colts for 93.
