Held as a Pink Stumps fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation, the match will see some of Dubbo’s most exciting juniors take on current players who ply their trade locally and those who have gone on to bigger and better things.
The ex-collegians side will be led by former Dubbo College Senior Campus vice-captain Marty Jeffrey, who has recently made the move to play with the University of NSW in Sydney.
It was also feature former NSW Country player Tim Cox as well as Dan Holland, Mick Daly, Shane Groen, Craig Pettit and Ben Patterson, fresh from helping NSW win the Australian Indigenous Cricket Championships at Alice Springs.
Promising Western female representative Chloe Ahearn, a year 12 student, and former NSW Combined High Schools captain Katie Shanks will also play in Jeffrey’s team.
Brock Larance, who played with Patterson at Alice Springs, has been named as captain of the current students side and he will play alongside CYMS teammate Thomas Nelson as well as fellow RSL-Whitney Cup players Ben Wheeler and Will Grant.
Promising younger players Koda Sissian, Jesse Spang and Jayden Blake have also been named in the side.
“It’s a really good opportunity to play the ex-collegians and it’s the first school game under lights as well so it should be good,” Larance said.
The game will be preceded by an Indigenous challenge between Indigenous students from the College’s Senior, South and Delroy campuses, all of who have had limited cricket experience.
Two lucky players from that game will be selected to play in the main game.
That main match will be umpired by well known Dubbo identity Geoff Mann and former Dubbo College teacher Phil Leonard.
All money collected at the gate will go to the McGrath Foundation.
The match is open to anyone what wants to come and watch with play to start at 4.30pm at No. 1 Oval.
