Stunning Columbian roses were popular but bunches of colourful flowers with a single rose in their centre were also a hit.
Orders had been “constant” at the popular florist in Brisbane Street in the lead-up to the day when romance blooms.
On Wednesday morning its cool room was full of floral arrangements waiting to be collected or delivered to customers in Dubbo and Western NSW communities such as Walgett and Coonamble.
Blokes who had forgotten about Valentine’s Day were being assisted by Hot Poppyz Florist staff from early morning.
“We just walk them through it and see what they want to spend,” said florist assistant Tegan Shields.
She said on average customers were buying $100 bunches of flowers for their partners.
Demand for Valentine’s Day flowers and gifts have required a 6am start and a 10pm finish for the florist’s staff every day since Sunday. Preparations have included getting “greenery ready”.
The long hours are compensated by the smiles on the faces of recipients at workplaces and homes. “It’s special,” Ms Shields said.
