A day after Brock Larance’s six wickets led the the Blues to victory over Northern Territory, Marty Jeffrey and Ben Patterson starred in a convincing win over Victoria.
NSW downed Victoria by 86 runs at Alice Springs, with Jeffrey’s top score of 62 not out from 74 balls leading his side to 8/240 from 50 overs.
Patterson then took centre stage in the field, taking 5/18 from 7.1 overs as Victoria could only manage 154 in reply.
Earlier, Jeffrey had come to the crease with the match in the balance.
NSW was 5/102 and after a brief partnership with Larance (15), Jeffrey passed 50 and combined brilliantly with his side’s tail to build an imposing total.
The Blues piled on 53 runs in the final four overs, with Patterson (16 from 11) playing a part.
NSW began its time in the field brilliantly, taking two wickets in the first over.
Victoria worked its way back into the match but Patterson came on his pace yielded four wickets for just seven runs to reduce his opposition to 6/64.
The target was too much from there, Jeffrey (1/31) and Larance (1/34) also playing a part in the win.
NSW is the only side with two wins from the opening two rounds, Tasmania winning on Tuesday after a round one bye.
Wednesday sees Twenty20 matches being played with NSW taking on Queensland in the morning and then South Australia later in the afternoon.
