Dubbo’s Brock Larance has already played a mountain of cricket this summer but he is relishing the chance to test himself against some of the best cricketers in the country at next week’s National Indigenous Cricket Championships.
Larance is one of three Dubbo juniors set to play at the annual tournament at Alice Springs with Marty Jeffrey and Ben Patterson retaining their places in the squad which lost last season’s Championships final to Victoria.
This year’s edition marks Larance’s debut at the Championships and is just the latest in a long line of representative call-ups.
The highlight came last September when he played in the Australian under 16s side but his summer has also been packed with various junior and senior matches.
“I just want to play cricket and do as much as I can, learn as much as I can and try and go as far as I can,” Larance, 16, said.
“I’ll do as much as I can to help the team and have fun at the same time.”
Patterson and Jeffrey have also enjoyed busy summers with the former having played in numerous matches for a Sydney Thunder indigenous side while Jeffrey has recently moved to Sydney and linked up with the University of NSW club.

The trio are likely to play a key role for the Blues, with Patterson and Jeffrey already having produced impressive individual performances at Alice Springs while Larance heads north in good form with bat and ball.
“It will be good fun. It should be a good competition and will be a test, especially for the mental side of things with the heat up there,” Larance said.
“My bowling is going well at the moment and I’ve been scoring a few runs, that’s the main thing.”
Larance added having Patterson and Jeffrey, two younger players he knows and who have been there before, will help.
The Blues side will be captained by Newcastle and NSW Country star Nathan Price.
The Championships is also renowned as one of the more special tournaments to play at with the focus on culture and community as much as cricket.
The action starts on Monday with NSW taking on the Northern Territory.
NSW plays six matches before the finals on February 12.
