One of the most exciting batsmen in the game, Pietersen will be at Taronga Western Plains Zoo on Wednesday morning before a meet-and-greet with fans at the Orana Mall Optus store.
While at the zoo, Pietersen will meet the critically endangered black rhino calf, and announces the calf’s name.
Pietersen is a passionate rhino ambassador who announced an “all-out war on poachers” earlier this year and the visit to Dubbo occurs in the lead-up to Pietersen’s farewell “rhino match” game for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
One dollar for everyone who attends the match against the Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG on January 28 will be donated towards rhino conservation.
During last year, Pietersen also started using Spartan cricket bats featured rhino-inspired designs.
“Every time I go out there I’m representing and animal which could be extinct in 20 years,” Pietersen said at the time.
“It’s about raising awareness, raising money, channeling it in the right way and playing for the greater good, rather than just going out and trying to whack sixes.
I’ve deciated the rest of my career to batting for rhinos.
“It’s something I’m very, very keen to do.”
Pietersen will visit the rhinos from 10.30am and then will be at Optus store at 12pm on Wednesday and will be available for autographs and photos with fans there.
