There may not be a huge turnout of Dubbo athletes at Cowra on Sunday but there’s no doubt Orange Cycle and Triathlon Club members will be out in force.

Dubbo has the second leg of its Junior Tri-Stars on Sunday while Cowra hosts its rescheduled leg of the Central West Inter-Club Series.
Thanks to the Mudgee leg, the Orange club heads into Sunday’s races in the lead, one which they’ll be hoping to hold heading into the Bathurst on Australia Day.
Bathurst gun Mark Windsor is looking forward to Sunday’s event, although, he admitted knocking the Piranhas off their pedestal will be a tough ask.
The Cowra leg was originally scheduled for December 3 but was washed out.
While he could not nail it down to one triathlete, Windsor believes there will be a few competitors in the mix to win.
“Tim Berkel is coming up from Sydney. He’s an incredible athlete and he’ll put the pressure on,” he said.
“Nick North is always up there. He might be looking to take his foot off and unload. Clearly he’s a talent but I’m unsure where he’s at.
“Connor Whiteley from Orange. He’s my tip to win if he shows up. He’s got a lot national commitment but he’s got the legs to scorch the field in the last run.
“It should make for a great event.”
The Cowra Acquatic Centre and Twigg Oval will host the triathlon, which begins at 9.30am.
The Junior Tri-Stars event is at Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre and Victoria Park on Sunday morning with races at 9am, 9.30am and 10am.
Kids and adults alike can compete and anyone who hasn’t entered yet can do so from 7.30am, Sunday morning at the pool.
An Adult Aquathon will also be contested.
