Emergency services had remained at the location of the seven-vehicle fatal crash, which involved two trucks, four sedans and a utility about 12.30pm Tuesday.
A 19-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man in one car died at the scene.
On Wednesday morning the highway reopened but the smell of fuel remained in the vicinity of the crash.
Police tape lay by the road and broken glass could be seen.
Crash investigators meticulously examined the scene from Tuesday well into the early hours of the next day.
They are continuing to appeal for assistance from any person with information about the crash who has not yet spoken to police.
