Dubbo City Animal Shelter had seen a reduction in their sanctuary with only 169 dogs and 114 cats impounded over the December/January period.

Over the last couple of weeks rangers had responded to over 60 complaints of dogs either stray or off leash.
There had also been 16 reports of dogs acting aggressive and attacking during the period.
“Given that our public areas such as walking tracks have a high use during the school holiday period, council reminds residents to continue to ensure their dogs are secure on a lead at all times,” Dubbo Regional Manager Environmental Control, Debbie Archer said.
Dubbo Regional Council provide 14 leash free areas in Dubbo and two in Wellington to allow dogs to be exercised.
To appropriately control their dogs in these areas owners must be over 16 years old.
Stray cats and dogs can be dropped off to the Dubbo City Animal Shelter in the after hour pens at any time. Animals will stay there and be safe until an owner can be contacted.
