Dubbo Reading Cinemas Manager Michael Wakelam said that the number of moviegoers attending the cinemas in the holiday period has been impressive due to the wide variety of movies currently on show. “There has been five really good movies, and everyone has gone towards them equally,” he said.
Mr. Wakelam said that the heat was another reason for the recent boost in the number of moviegoers attending the Dubbo Reading Cinema, with the five air-conditioned theatres in the cinema being a wonderful way for Dubbo’s residents to stay cool during the heat of the day.
There is plenty of choice for children on school holidays wanting to visit the cinema in Dubbo, with four children’s movies currently showing in Dubbo including Coco (rated PG), Paddington 2 (rated G), Ferdinand (rated G) and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (rated PG).
Mr. Wakelam said that The Greatest Showman (rated PG) had also been popular with children, with many grandparents enjoying taking their grandchildren to see the film. The film, which stars Hugh Jackman, is an original musical celebrating the origins of show business which received three nominations at the 75th Golden Globe Awards.
Drawing even more of Dubbo’s residents to the cinema was the eighth installment of the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (rated M). The film’s release on the 14th of December attracted not only “die-hard Star Wars fans” to the cinema but a whole new generation of viewers, Mr. Wakelam said.
Another much-loved franchise, Pitch Perfect, is also now back in the Dubbo cinema with a new installment. Pitch Perfect 3 (rated M), the third installment of the musical comedy saga, has received an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and moviegoers alike, according to Mr. Wakelam. “It’s a good way to finish off the series,” he said.
Older moviegoers can also look forward to the upcoming release of comedy film Swinging Safari (rated M) in the Dubbo cinema on the 18th of January. The comedy film takes a humorous look into 1970s Australia and is set to be a huge success in the cinema, with an all-star cast featuring Kylie Minogue and Asher Keddie.
Seven movies are currently showing at the Dubbo Reading Cinemas: Coco (rated PG), Ferdinand (rated G), The Greatest Showman (rated PG), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (rated PG), Paddington 2 (rated G), Pitch Perfect 3 (rated M) and Star Wars: the Last Jedi (rated M). Session times and movie details are available on Dubbo Reading Cinema’s website.
