While higher education funding cuts announced by the Federal Government at the end of 2017 will place additional pressure on universities and have a significant impact on options for regional universities like Charles Sturt University (CSU), the University will continue lobbying for the higher education sector to retain essential funding for our regional students and our communities and CSU Dubbo will continue to provide high quality student centred courses by committed academic and support staff.

Building on the success of 2017 CSU prides itself on providing educational opportunities for rural and regional people, with a proven track record of delivering significant outcomes for our graduates, with employment and competitive salaries post-graduation.
The Dubbo campus had a substantial refurbishment in 2017 with IT upgrades, new student learning and study areas, teaching spaces and library learning zones and work continues next year with additional upgrades to physical campus infrastructure.
The campus certainly is a wonderful, friendly, colourful and comfortable student-centric facility and with the introduction of 24 hour access seven days a week , all students whether online or on campus are welcome and encouraged to use the campus facilities and the support staff to assist them in their learning journey.
This learning environment aligns with our University values of being an inclusive, inspiring, insightful and impactful place to study.
A new pathway to university
The Diploma of General Studies is a new course offering for CSU Dubbo in 2018.
The Diploma is a great pathway for people not sure if university is for them, for those students that didn’t get the ATAR they need to get into their chosen course or for those not sure what course they want to enrol in.
Successful completion of the Diploma gives automatic entry to the majority of courses offered by CSU.
We will continue to offer the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Social Work and the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) and students can choose the mode of study that suits them, with many students choosing to study online or stay at home rather than move away for study.
CSU Dubbo campus offers the space and support staff to assist any CSU student to study and achieve their goals in completing their chosen course.
Visitors always welcome
We welcome the community to come during business hours and experience our shared space and view the rolling art exhibitions which will continue in 2018 featuring artworks from local artists. The local community, CSU alumni and local high school students, can for no charge, join and use the University library as community borrowers.
Community groups are also encouraged to make use of our facilities for any range of activities such as meetings, workshops, seminars or conferences.
Community events in 2018
The new year will begin with a commencement ceremony for new students on February 20 followed by course specific information days.
As a University we look forward to continuing to engage with the community, especially through the Healthy U at CSU Expo on 19 March and engaging with school groups through MyDay and Future Moves throughout the year.
Planning is also underway for more public lectures from diverse and insightful speakers.
Foundation Day will be celebrated in July with events on campus to acknowledge and celebrate CSU’s history, to reflect on our successes and celebrate our past and future. We hope the community will join us for these celebrations.
Community grants open soon
The Community-University Partnership (CUP) program will again be delivered and aims to advance CSU’s mission by cultivating strong and collaborative partnerships with our local communities.
Grants will be offered in five areas: general Head of Campus grants (available throughout the year), arts and culture, education development, indigenous community engagement and sports development.
We encourage our communities to apply, with more information to be provided in the coming months.
Alumni networks open new opportunities
A great number of students graduated from CSU in 2017 and in the years prior and we want to stay engaged with our graduates.
It is for this reason we are planning to hold an event for CSU alumni in 2018 and launch a program to encourage a long term connection and an ongoing relationship between our alumni and the University, to have former students share their knowledge and experiences to assist current students and courses.
CSU is part of the local community and values the ongoing support of the people of Dubbo and the wider region. 2018 is set to be another big year for CSU and the Dubbo campus in particular. Come visit out campus, experience the hospitality of our staff and students, make use of our facilities and include us in your life just as we want you to be part of ours.
With best wishes for a happy and rewarding 2018,
We look forward to continuing to engage with the community ...
